Web Protocols - part deux

Just a quick update, a few more Web Protocols that I failed to include earlier in the year.

First we have WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)
Wireless Application Protocol is an open international standard, and is used for accessing the internet via a mobile device such as an Iphone or PDA. It is based on Internet Standards (HTML, XML and TCP/IP), consisting of a WML language specification, a WMLScript specification, and a Wireless Telephony Application Interface (WTAI) specification.
To fit into such small wireless terminals, WAP uses a Micro Browser, Which is a small piece of software that makes minimal demands on hardware, memory and CPU.
Some examples of WAP use include;
·         Checking train table information
·         Ticket Purchase
·         Viewing traffic information

Secondly there is GSM (Global System for Mobiles)
Global System for Mobile Communications is the most popular standard for mobile telephony systems in the world. With over 1.5 billion people in 212 countries and territories using it worldwide, and allows subscribers the use of their phones in many parts of the world. It is different to its predecessor technologies because both signalling and speech channels are digital. This also facilitates the wide-spread implementation of data communication applications into the system.
Examples of GSM in use;
·         GSM enables users to make use of their cell phones in places other than their country of origin
·         Provides high quality signal and speech channels, at affordable rates
·         Cheap calling and texting to anywhere in the world
